Day 7 and 8 (June 28 and 29)
After arriving in Edmonton, we set up camp and had dinner. We are at the Glowing Embers campground which is a 300 camper place. It is in the country and tends to be very quiet despite the size. We meet our neighbor next door who is a Viet Nam vet that married a Canadian. He has lived and works in Canada. He is a bite “crusty” and a talker. He claims to have worked on the Alaskan Highway rebuilt in the 1990’s and was able to give us some ideas of what we need to visit. My plans were good according to him. He was a character and fun to talk to. He works down here in the summer and goes north to the oil fields in the winter. We waited for the sun to set but went to bed with it still up at 11 AM.
Wednesday- It is our 43rd wedding anniversary. We spend the day visiting the Muttart Conservatory which has four climate pyramids for the four climates. It was very interesting but the cactus selection at the Peace garden is better! Also visited the Legislative Building and had a great tour. This capitol is similar but different. It has 5 palm trees growing up in the rotunda! We have never seen that! The grounds and fountains were beautiful in the nice warm weather we had today. In fact, all the high school seniors were there for their formal pictures and the fountains were full of small kids swimming.
We spend all afternoon at the Royal Albert Museum visiting there exhibits- under the sea, nature in Alberta and the Native Indians exhibit. We enjoy it but were a bit overwhelming. This evening we went to the Mall and had supper. This mall is the largest in the worlds with a hockey arena, Water Park, amusement park and stores. It is not a nice as our mega mall and the signage is terrible. We had a nice dinner and they quality of places are not but to ours.
I forgot my camera in the camper so no pictures today! I will get some tomorrow.
