We got up to fog rain but went to town to check out the sights. Today we visited the Native American Cultural museum, SS Keno (steamship), Dawson City museum and the Dredge number 4. They were good but my favorite was the Native American museum. The tour was lead by a native lady who freely shared her way of life and struggles as a native. She is the great-great granddaughter of Chief Isaac who was the first chief of the natives at the time of the gold rush. She explained how they tan hides, dried salmon and even beaded their garments. Mike liked the dredge but it was way too mechanical for me! There was a lot to learn about the history of the gold rush. It is hard to believe that the town just about became a ghost town. It has been on the incline since the 196o’s. Tourism is there major employer but mining for other minerals is happening.
Did you know that they recently found gold in Dawson City again? It is in the exploration stage.
Did you know that to get to “The Top of World Road” once has to take a ferry ran by the Yukon government? Yes, we will do that tomorrow morning and go to Tok, Alaska.
